Live Music Band performing at Nestle Meetings - Kuching

This report covers our final live music band performance for Nestle's Meetings(April 2009)
Our music band tonight is made up of three musicians with the keyboard giving the accompaniment and the saxophone / Er hu providing the melody. This event was held at the Riverside Majestic Hotel, formerly Crown Plaza Kuching.

We arrive at Kuching in the afternoon from Johor Bahru, and manage to take a stroll at the walk-way along the river not far from the hotel. The "bar-like" food stalls were pretty cool! I was told that they use to sell beers cheap there till the authorities ban it due to frequent fights that occurred among the locals. Too bad!

After our performance, we called up some friends and went out for supper, still on time to catch the game between Man United and Aston Villa. Man United miraculously won the game after going down 2 - 1 with 10 minutes left to play!

"Live Music Band" performing at Nestle Meetings - Johor Bahru

This is the second of the three "Live Music Band" performance we're doing for Nestle this year. Our first show featured a four piece band line-up with female/male singer which was Nestle's official dinner held in Shangrila Kuala Lumpur. Today's performance is for their nutrition meeting located in Pulai Spring Resorts, Johor Bahru.
Photo of the Live Music Band taken after the event

I was pretty excited about this trip as it was a two days performance, on the 4th April in JB and the next day at Kuching, Sarawak. It was like a working vacation for me as I haven't been out of KL for sometime and had great company with me through out this trip. The venue where we stayed was approximately 30 minutes from Senai International Airport.

We thought of having local dishes for lunch but there weren't any food stalls around the resort, it's pretty isolated. So my saxophone player called up two of his friends and took us out for meals at a huge food court which they owned! A place called Saling if my memory serves me well.

The people that attended this meeting were all doctors! Nestle invited International speakers for nutritional talks and we provided "live music band" entertainment during dinner. We performed a mix of instrumental jazz, oldies, chinese classics and local favourites for their listening entertainment. The guest were very appreciative as they could relate to the melodies that were rendered on the saxophone and er hu.

The event ended about 10 something. After packing up, we headed out for some drinks and local delicacies...

I concocted a great jazz band line up as entertainment, comprising of a young and attractive female vocalist that was able to croon a mix of jazz standards to evergreens, an electric guitarist / vocalist that sings and plays like "George Benson", a saxophone player who will give "Kenny G" a run for his money : ) and myself who is managing the band as well as playing the keyboards(International Electone Festival Winner).

We performed a total of two sets, the first as light dinner entertainment and the second which was more interactive whereby some foreign delegates actually participated by coming up to render their favourite songs with the band. We notice the patriotic side of them when the songs they choose were their native folk songs. I recalled a russian lady, a vietnamese and Indian chap requesting whether we could accompany them on our instruments : )

They sang and had a good time and so did we. That jam session went on for about 10 minutes before we wrap up the evening.

I will be performing in Johor Bharu and Kuching this weekend with my band. I'm really looking forward to that...
